Grading, assessment, and knowing

Introduction

Do you understand our standards? The goal of assessment is to reliably determine if a student meets assessment criteria. Or in other words, do you understand this?

Formative assessment

Formative assessment, including diagnostic testing, is a range of formal and informal assessment procedures conducted by teachers during the learning process in order to modify teaching and learning activities to improve student attainment

• We will have formative assessments almost every week. Most formative assessments will be recorded in our gradebook. I'll remind you to use formative assessments to gauge your own self-assessment. You should ask yourself "Do I understand this stuff" and then look at formative assessments to answer the question.

Summative assessment

Summative assessment (or summative evaluation) refers to the assessment of participants where the focus is on the outcome of a program.

• Instruction in this course is based around logical topics and projects. Summative assessments are given at the end of each topic.

Final Exam

A final project will be completed by all students.
